Al-Azhar mosque

The mosque is located at Al-Azhar Street. It was founded in 972 by Jawhar al-Siqilly, built on the order of Caliph Muezz Li-Din Allah. The mosque aisles defined by round arches on pre-Islamic marble columns with Corinthian capitals, and with the axis to the mihrab emphasized by a wide longitudinal aisle (transept).The other aisles are transverse, running parallel to the qibla wall. Al-Azhar had six minarets.
